How to care for luxury cushions

Luxury cushions are not simply accessories but they add the finishing touch to your home, they add that wow factor, and they will draw the eye and enhance the furniture around them. So how do we care for our luxury cushions?

Here are some simple tips.

Regular maintenance ensures longevity of your cushions

Fluff and shake: Give your cushions a shake. Fluffing your cushions from time to time will prevent the feathers from settling, leaving your cushions mis-shapen. This simple action helps maintain an even distribution, keeping cushions plush and well-shaped.

Chop your cushions: For the perfect shape, practise the "chop" technique. Gently hit the top centre of the cushion with the edge of your hand to create that coveted ‘chopped’ look.

Perfect your plump: Your cushions will need regular plumping, this keeps them looking full and at their best. Give your cushions a quick plump on a daily basis to maintain their shape.

Adjust your cushions: Ensure you adjust your cushion padding to ensure the feathers fill out each corner to maintain the cushion's shape and prevent unevenness. Try and unzip your cushion covers now and again to

Protecting your cushions will extend their life

Sunlight Exposure: Your luxury cushion fabric  will fade if they endure prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Try to position your luxury cushions away from direct sunlight or rotate them frequently to avoid uneven fading.
Clothing and Accessories: Zips and other rough materials on your clothing can damage cushion fabrics. Be mindful of clothing when handling your cushions, especially on more delicate cushion covers.

Adhere to cleaning instructions

Due to the high quality of your cushion fabric, dry cleaning your cushions is the safest option.

Dry cleaning will prevent fabric shrinkage, colour bleeding, and any other damage. For minor spills, spot cleaning can be an effective way to treat. Always do a patch test first, in an inconspicuous area, before treating the entire surface.

Fabric-Specific Care: Understand the care needs of your specific fabric. For example, velvet cushions may require brushing in a single direction, while linen might need more gentler handling.

Your luxury cushions should last many years. While no one can guarantee against standard wear and tear, following these care tips can significantly extend the life and beauty of your cushions. Your luxury cushions don’t need to be treated like a museum piece…but a little bit of care goes a long way!
